“Beyond Six Strings” featuring Grammy-nominee Paul Galbraith in concert
at Hudson Hall at Willamette University (900 State St., Salem). This is the first of a series of three concerts. Paul plays an 8-string Brahams guitar (his own invention), which is played in an upright posture like a cello. This is a classical concert including works by Mozart, Schubert, Bach, Lennox Berkeley, and William Boyd. Tickets are $15 general, $10 students/seniors. Series price for all three concerts is $40 general, $25 students/seniors. Friday, April 4 through Thursday, April 10
The Singing Revolution
at the Hollywood Theater (41st Ave. at NE Sandy Blvd., Portland). This movie is an inspirational documentary about the power of music in culture. It tells the story of how music and song helped the small nation of Estonia survive and finally break free from 50 years of Soviet occupation. Tickets are available at the Hollywood Theater box office or online (click here and scroll down till you find it). On Friday, April 4 and Sunday, April 6, shows will be preceeded by performances from the Portland Estonia Folk Dancers. On Friday, dance performance is at 6:30 PM prior to the 7:00 PM showtime; on Sunday, dance performance is at 2:30 PM prior to the 3:00 PM movie showtime. Click here for general showtimes.

at Hudson Hall at Willamette University (900 State St., Salem). This is the second of a series of three concerts. John (associate professor of guitar at Willamette University) will play a 20-string harp guitar and a rare 1829 three-next harpolyre (YouTube Clip 1 , YouTube Clip 2). Ronn is one of the world’s leading performers on a 13-course (18-string) lute (YouTube clip). He will perform works by John Dowland and Francesco da Milano as well as original works.
