When Do We Meet?
The first Monday of every month, starting at 7:00 PM and ending about 9:30 PM. All meetings are free and open to the public. When the first Monday is a holiday -- usually on Labor Day in September, and often on the Fourth of July -- the meeting is postponed to the second Monday of the month.
What Happens at a Meeting?
Signup for the open mic occurs before the meeting. We can still take signups into the early minutes of the meeting. After about 7:15 PM, the player list is closed.
The first few minutes of each meeting are used for PGS business and announcements. The PGS Board members report briefly on future meetings, special events, the lending library, the newsletter, and membership. Announcements of general interest, such as an upcoming event or an item for sale, can be made from the floor.
The open mic part of the meeting starts right after the opening announcements. Players are limited to five minutes total (including any preamble speaking).
At around 8:50, the meeting is given to the featured performer. This is a local player of professional level who is invited to present a mini-concert. When the featured performer is finished, the meeting closes.
To provide opportunities for more open mic time, PGS reserves two meetings each year (March and September) where we forego the featured performer and devote the entire evening to open mic.
